what I do
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Urogynecology and the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My research interests include the sexual health of women with pelvic floor disorders, postpartum pelvic floor changes and questionnaire development.
I am currently the Vice President of the American Urogynecologic Society and have served as the Educational Committee Chair for the past four years for that organization. My other national service includes responsibilities as a standing member for the GRASS study section of the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development, as well as an ad hoc reviewer for grants administered through the American Urogynecologic Society foundation.
I have published over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecology and the The New England Journal of Medicine. My current areas of research include a National Institutes of Health funded study to examine postpartum pelvic floor changes in healthy women following childbirth, currently in its second year of funding. Additionally, I have received numerous awards and honors, including the Merit of Distinction and Continence Care Champion from the National Association for Continence. I co-authored a lay book, Regaining Bladder Control: What Every Woman Needs to Know, written to alleviate women’s embarrassment about incontinence.
