1) Yes, it's normal to feel those side effects, 2) you shouldn't ever stop taking effexor cold turkey or skip doses.  This drug is notorius for having bad side effects when coming off it. I went off once and am now back on it several years later.  Depending on how long you've taken it and at what dosage, you need to wean very slowly under a doctor's supervision.  Is this a pdoc who recommended you skip doses?

It was my family doctor who recommended skipping doses.  I wasn't on a high dosage so he suggested trying it this way instead of going to a lower dose.   It's been about 5 days now since I've totally been off the medication.  I feel really bad today - lightheaded, nauseous, fatigue.  I've also been extremely irritable and emotional.  How long do these side effects normally last?  Any suggestions to cope?  Were you nervous going back on effexor after being on it before knowing what the withdrawal symptoms were like?  I'm beginning to think I should have just stayed on it.  But I figured I would just let it work itself out of my system and see how I feel, before going back on it.

I'm hoping you will be feeling better soon!  The withdrawal can be awful, but it will be out of your system soon.  Are you changing to another med or is your depression gone.  I'm hoping that you feel better by the end of the week & can function normally!

I know that dharma had no regrets going back on it.  Jan over at Anxiety, Panic & Phobias took it for awhile, also, and said she would go back on it if she ever needed to.  My dil is doing wonderful on it, as well!

I worry the same will happen to me when I decie to go off the Lexapro.  It sounds like most of the meds have the same effect when weaning off of them.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hugs,

How long do these side effects normally last?  Any suggestions to cope?  Depending on how long you were taking it and at was dose, it can last several weeks.

Were you nervous going back on effexor after being on it before knowing what the withdrawal symptoms were like?  Not really because I now know I will probably be on it for life.  I don't see myself going off it any time in the near future. It works so well for me that I had to take the chance.

Feel any better today?

I was on 75 mg.  I spoke with my doctor last night about my withdrawal symptoms and he said the physical ones are normal and should eventually go away.  He prescribed another medication to help with the dizziness.  But he said the irritability/agitation could be signs that I wasn't ready to come off of the medication yet.  So we're going to give it another week or two to see if I'm feeling any better.  If not, he suggested going back on the effexor to continue treating the depression.  It's so frustrating!  There's so much trial and error and the fatigue is ridiculous.  Another reason I wanted to go off is because I heard that being on antidepressants while pregnant is not a good idea.  Not that I'm planning on getting pregnant any time soon, but I'm just thinking about the future.  I can't imagine going through these withdrawal symptoms while pregnant.  Do you know anything about that topic?
