Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced a weight gain or loss while on Zoloft.

I'm currently I'm 50mg and have been losing weight steadily. I am almost 5 months post partum, so the weight loss is welcome. I do weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy, but I was a bit heavier because Effexor had caused a significant weight gain.

TIA

Rhonda

hi, I am on the generic brand, 50 mg also. I am almost 5 months postpartum. I had stopped losing weight about 1 month and a half after the baby and i was down to pre preg weight. Since I started the zoloft 6 weeks ago, I have lost 6 more lbs. I had thought that would would make me gain weight though. Actually I have a lot of negative side effects so I am in the process of quiting the zoloft.

I was on Zoloft for sometime. I was concerned because I had "gained" weight initially. At that time, I went back to the doctor and voiced my concern about this and he told me "it is not likely you have gained weight from Zoloft. Most people actually lose weight on it. It is more likely that You are overeating due to depression. Come back in 3 months and we will see how you are doing" I did not think I was eating more but thought the doctor must be right and went home to try harder to lose weight. 3 months later with very low self esteem and 50 extra pounds. I went back to the doctor. My doc was out of town. I asked his sub for a weight loss pill because I still believed it must be the zoloft that was causing the weight gain, but I was afraid to go off the med, because of the improvements in other areas. This doctor told me "You need to take responsibility for your problems and put down the fork. It is a known fact that if you consumed less calories than you are using you will lose weight." Beyond depressed about my continuing weight gain and feeling very bad about myself. I went home and eventually went off of Zoloft, because I was so depressed that I did not think I deserved to have the money spent on me for the meds.In just a couple of weeks of stopping the meds, which I do not suggest anyone do cold turkey!!! I had lost 15 pounds without even trying. In fact, I think I may have even been eating more than usual. I have since met other people that have had significant weight gain on Zoloft. All of the people I have met that have gained weight, it was between 30 and 60 pounds and they kept that weight on until they went off of the meds. All had docs that did not believe the weight gain came from the drug. I have also heard of people that intially lost weight within the first 3 weeks or so of starting Zoloft. Effexor Rx ended up being the med that helped me. People react differently, don't be afraid to change until you find something with side effects you can live with.
