GOOD MORNING JILLY! I hear your plea to help tone while you walk and I am here to tell you that this is definitely possible. When people tell me they don’t like strength training; either they don’t like gyms or weight machines, or they are hard pressed for time and use it to focus solely on their cardio workouts. Fortunately, I have a solution for both problems! You are walking with me, and for the most part, you are strength training when we use our boosters in unison with our walks. Isn’t that the best time saving and convenient way to strength train? I am sure you are familiar with the boosters I incorporate with my walks, but others may not so let me explain! What is a booster? I have used three different fitness tools in my walks throughout the years to “boost” my walking program: 1) soft hand weights (two pound soft weights), 2) firm band (latex resistance band), and 3) walk belt (a belt placed around the waist using resistance tubing to tone the arms, shoulders, and core). I would suggest to incorporate the boosters as often as you can during both your indoor and outdoor walks. If you are going outside for a walk, take along a pair of 2 lb. hand weights with you. When using the boosters, it doesn’t take a single extra minute of your time and we are actually building muscle while walking! Your walking sessions just became more fun, and most importantly, the workouts just became your “strength training session” as well! This is why I always refer to my walks as “an entire body workout” because that is exactly what they are!
MUCH LUCK!
LESLIE
