OMG!  Seriously, what on earth are people thinking?  These are grown adults, not five year olds trying to hit the playground.

I don't think it is fair to put it on stores.  So what if they only put 2 or 3 on the shelves?  It does not give people the right to act like idiots.  (And where in the store did it happen? Right by a rare item?  Or by the door?)  The mob that went in, trampled on the man, etc...they all should have been detained and questioned and some charged with murder.  THAT would stop people from acting like that!  But suing Walmart...that won't make people act responsibly!  No.  People need to take a moment and help someone who falls to the ground.  PERIOD!

MM, to answer your question: NO! It is not worth it.  In fact, I didn't see anything at all that was worth me getting up, getting cold, and getting irritated for.  Frankly, the spirit of Christmas is, to me, blemished a bit by Black Friday.  I don't criticize anyone who goes out...I've been out on BF before...and some people have a great tradition and lots of fun.  But for me...a bargain isn't worth the freaking out and hassle.

Wow.  That is super sad, on sooooo many levels.

I do think stores should reconsider it.  I also blame the media (local TV stations) because they have been hyping Black Friday for the last 10 years or so. I feel sorry for the workers who have to get up early because the store they work at is open at 5:00AM. Most people don't have to work that day forget about those who do. I watched coverage of one store and they showed this man pushing his way through the crowd with a shopping cart. It looked like he was just ramming it at people to get them to move faster. That's terrible. This reminds of the Who concert in Cincinnati back in 1978 when a crowd rushed to get to non reserved  seats (called festival seating) and trampled over fans while doing it. A couple of people were killed and many were injured. After that some venues banned "festival seating". IMO these people (@ Wal Mart) acted no better than those from that concert.

I read an article where the other employees were trying to pull him out of the way after he was knocked down.  And the reason they didnt close the store was the people broke the locks on the door and forced their way in.    The article said there were 2k people trying to get in.  SO not necessarily the people in front, but the ones behind that were pushing.

It is sad, there were others hurt there as well including and 8month pg woman.
