Noah's 15-month Check-up- How it Went

He's all caught up on his shots until he's 4 or 5 for his Kindergarten boosters! He is having weight issues though. His height and length went up and he's in 75%-ile for those but his weight went from 50%-ile down to 5th! Now my other 2 are at 5th, but that is way too big a difference in only 3 months. His doctor told me to feed him more high-calorie food like milk shakes, cheese, fries, etc. So we met dh at Olga's for lunch yesterday and that's what he got- chicken nugget-type sandwich, shake, fries... But it doesn't eat that well but I guess cuz he's a baby. Apparently he's replacing his reg. meals with nursing and now its not doing its job alone. He doesn't look like a thin baby to me- he just looks normal! But I guess its the drop in percentiles that is the problem. Otherwise, he is all on track for his age- even climbing up on chairs! ;-)

I got a copy of his shot record and I'll copy it here for anybody who is interested.

I will copy them over here <more>

09/26/2001: (Birth) Vit. K

12/11/2001: DTaP 1, Hib 1

12/27/2001: HepB 1, Prevnar 1

02/12/2002: DTaP 2, Hib 2

03/19/2002: IPV 1, Prevnar 2

04/16/2002: DTaP 3, Hib 3, HepB 2, IPV 2

06/17/2002: IPV 3, Prevnar 3

09/26/2002: HIB 4, HepB 3, MMR 1

01/07/2003: DTaP 4, Varivax 1, Prevnar 4

At age 4 or 5 he will get DTaP 5, IPV 4, MMR 2. And if there is a booster added to Varivax, he will get that whenever it is recommended.

Hope this helps with the ages he got the shots and how we split them up, along with which ones he's gotten! (When I get a print of Nataleigh's, that's even MORE interesting. LOL)

Thanks for the update...

You know, my kids were also very small (still are) and even though some kids will cross more than 2 percentiles and drop on the weight curve it may not be a concern. How much does Noah weigh? At 15 months of age, neither my DD nor DS were even on the curve (ie <5th %ile). They met their milestones without difficulty and I was not concerned given the "smallness" that runs in my family. (Also keeping in mind that the current growth curves we use are for predominantly formula fed, Caucasian children).

Thanks for posting Noah's shot schedule...

Eve

Its just that his weight went down from 25 to 5 percentile <more>

His head and height stayed on the same curve as they were but his weight dropped. He is 31 1/2 inches, 20 lbs 6 oz. and 18 3/4 inches head circ. Basically he is the same weight as 12 mos, plus 2 or 3 oz. but his height has gone up along the curve.

He is hitting his milestones right on time so I'm not worried. Just hope he doesn't keep dropping is the point I guess. I tried to feed him a more high-calorie diet but being he had shots he'd rather nurse and snuggle. He's been playing and doing normal stuff, don't get me wrong, but he just loves his boob I guess! I was on my lap the other day nursing with his arms around my (big) boob looking like it was his best friend in the whole world and he was so in love!

Thanks for the feedback and your welcome for the list of vax. They printed it out for me. :-) I can't believe all 3 of my kids are caught up on the shots and don't need any more for another year or two or three! Considering what I was doing last year- in for shots every week or two weeks what with all 3 of them getting shots!

Ugh, the doctor really recomended (more)

foods like "fries" to put weight on him? Sorry to jump in, it just makes more sense to me to give him extra calories of *nutritious* food to help him gain weight. You could make milk shakes at home with your own ingredients so you know he is filling up on food that is healthy for him! They even sell kids shake mixes (in health food stores, probably some grocery stores) which are chock full of good stuff. My kids love them made with frozen bananas and yogurt, so they are thick. Sometimes I even sneak strange things like frozen green beans in (in the blender they are pulverized, so the kids never know they're there) which they won't eat if I cook them.

Again, not trying to put you on the defensive or anything -- it just sounds to me like strange advice for developing healthy eating habits.

Best of luck putting a few pounds on him -- my boys have REALLY loved nursing, too! Betcha he just had a growth spurt and will be back on the "filling out" curve again soon.
