My DH works 50 miles away, and now stays one night a week in the town he works in, and sleeps on the couch in the lounge at his work.  It's hard because it's one night every week he doesn't get to see the boys, but it's saving us quite a bit of money each month.  We also do most of our shopping in that same town, and now I'm trying to limit myself to 1 or 2 trips a month, when I'm used to going at least once a week.  I am a teacher and on summer break right now, but I have to pay for 3 days a week of daycare to save their spot so I figure I should use it.  If the weather is nice, I walk the boys there and back (which is good not only for my wallet, but for me!!).

Our moral convictions (some might say religious, since we're generally Wiccan) compel us to do what we can for the environment, other people, animals, etc. We've been making subtle changes over the last few years to bring ourselves closer to where we would like to be. Eventually, we want to live in something like this: http://www.simondale.net/house/

Within reason, I take the bus, walk, etc. We plan trips to the next town over only about once every 2 weeks and hit every store we could possibly need while there. I even walk the mile to the grocery store when I can. The problem being that we're in Ohio and sometimes it really is just too cold to walk or wait for the bus. But right now it's summer and my car's been "on empty" for four days now. We've driven twice. Once to the UU Church (30 min. drive) and once to KMart (8 min. if I catch the lights red.)

I drive to the grocery store about once a week because it's more than I can carry with the stroller.

Within walking distance are:
A Walk in emer. clinic
dr.'s office
Post office
drug store
ponderosa
family video
library
rec. center
pool
3 parks
grocery store
2 pizza restaurants
hair salon
gas stations
soon to be a dunkin donuts woot!

Can he car pool? That saves a lot on gas and wear & tear on the car and he can come home every night. My husband drives 50+ miles one way to work 6 days a week. He carpools with 4 other people. They average 7-8 times a month they drive each. So we are spending roughly 160 a month verses 120 a week!

I admire the heck out of you! I would really enjoy a lifestyle such as that but feel it won't happen in this lifetime. I do the best I can with what I've got but since I've been getting to know you, I'm becoming a better me (and we)!

We all do our part. Or at least, we all try.

It's been a long process and I'm no where near where I'd like to be. But that gives me something to work on...

I'm a better person for all y'all on here. It reminds me not to get on a high horse, not to get some stupid-ass superiority complex, cause all y'all beautiful women are strong, sensitive, independent, wonderful, intelligent peeps that make me aware of how diverse this world is, and that it's okay to be different and both be "right".

/end sappiness :)
