In Metro Detroit MI, we hit the $4 mark a couple weeks ago.  It has actually gone down a little in the last week--I think it is $3.98 now.  WooHoo.  Cost me $70 to fill up my van the other day (17.5 gallons).  Good thing I am on maternity leave and not driving much.

One of the counties here just changed the county government employees' work schedule to 4 ten hour days a week (instead of 5 eight hour days) to save them one day of driving and gas a week.  People can't hardly afford to go to work anymore.

I live about an hour south of Seattle... gas here is $4.19 a gallon.

I just filled my 4Runner this morning and the total came to $71. Fortunately, that's *my* car and since I work from home, it gets very little use. I maybe have to fill it once every 4-6 weeks. We mainly use DH's Corolla for errands around town and such.

We've been around $3.87 - $3.91 for a week now...

I just did some calculations.

If you drive 40 miles per day, 7 days a week - so 280 miles per week, and get 20 mpg:

at $4/gallon you will pay $2,912 a year for gasoline

at $3/gallon you will pay $2,184 a year for gasoline

at $2/gallon you will pay $1,456 a year for gasoline

so compared to when it was at $2/gallon you pay $121 dollars more per month.

For anyone living on "the edge", not getting at least 20 mpg, or having to drive longer distances (or even earn their living driving - using fuel) that would be of course very significant to their way of life.  Yikes.  I've heard it is going higher.  Double yikes.  I heard in one country...can't remember where though...it was at $11.  Interesting.

NJ is always cheap - the cheapest place around yesterday was at $3.79...quite a steal!
