I can believe that, especially with the sense of entitlement some kids have today. They know that they can easily get back at a teacher with an unfounded accusation if he gives them a bad grade. A friend of mine had to deal with that (and then the parents still backed the girl in her argument the grade was undeserved even after the accusation was proven false and she recanted).

Can't say I blame them - for one a lot of people seem to be suspicious of men who want to work with kids, especially single men.  And I knew girls in HS that were totally capable of making false accusations if they thought it would get them something.  It seems like attitudes like that have only gotten worse in the last 15 years too.

When my brother first started teaching high school, he was asked if he wanted to be the cheerleading sponsor.  (Yes, they must have been desparate for a sponsor!)  Even though he would have gotten a little extra money for doing it, he decided it wasn't worth the risk of any sexual harassment claims.

I think it's sad that some men are afraid to teach because of that.  Some men make awesome teachers.  My 3rd grade teacher was male, and he and I still correspond almost 20 years later.  My elementary school had some great male teachers.

I don't blame them for balking at teaching because of the possibility of sexual accusations. It's ironic, since one of the most prolific cases of a teacher having sex with a student is a female teacher...but totally understandable to me.
