I think it would be a bad idea. Wow, could you imagine a high school party when most of the seniors can LEGALLY buy and consume alcohol?! That would be very scary. When I was a senior in high school, there was a homecoming party that a lot of the kids went to. Not me though, my dad was a cop and therefore I was never invited to that kind of stuff. Anyway, one of the senior football players got his idiot parents to buy them alcohol. And a large majority of the kids got drunk, including that 18 yo player. Also, a freshman cheerleader got drunk, she had openly had a crush on this boy. And when he took her out of the way of all the other kids, she was happy to go. Well, long story short he raped her and beat her up pretty badly.
Anyway, he was an important member of the team, one of the good players. And, his parents were also members of the school board. So, he recieved no punishment from the school, even though he was arrested and spent 2 school days and nights in jail. But, ofcourse the victim was punished by the school. Not only was she the target of much harrasment and embarrasment, but she was kicked of the cheerleading squad for drinking, and suspended for something like two days.
I say all this because even though it wasn't a drunk driving case or a cause for MADD to get involved. It does go to show how 18 yo kids DO NOT make responsible decisions while drinking. Yeah, they say it effects mostly college campuses, but how many of you turned 18 in high school, how many of your kids will turn 18 while in high school?
I personally believe that they should make the legal age something like 24. But that is just my opinion.
