Mattel's latest addition to the Barbie family, known as "Totally Stylin' Tattoo Barbie", is striking up a lot of conversation.

She is fully equipped with sticker tattoos for herself and 40 temporary tattoos for kids. A small water-gun like "stamper" also comes with the doll for easy application of the temporary tattoos.

This is the second "Tattoo-Barbie" Mattel has launched. The first was back in 1999 and was called "Butterfly Art Barbie." She too came with tattoos for children and even had a large butterfly tattoo covering her mid-drift area. That doll was pulled from shelves after four months of being on the market due to a large amount of complaints by parents.

Why shouldn't my niece have a barbie that looks just like mommy?

I think a lot more women have tatoos now than even in 1999, so they are trying to see if it will fly again.

Tattoos are a whole lot more mainstream now than they were in 1999.  Would I have bought one for my DD then, when she was in the Barbie stage - I doubt it.  If she were currently in the Barbie stage, if she wanted one, I'd likely get it for her - so many of our friends and aquaintences, both male and female have tattoos, it's not as unacceptable as it used to be.

<<*** Would you buy Tattoo Barbie for your child/ren?

If she wanted it, for a birthday gift or Christmas gift- sure. Why? Well being that I sport some tatts myself, I really don't give a value judgment on them.

<<*** What do you think has changed since 1999 that prompted

The Bratz dolls opened up a big ole can of skank- and tatts pale remarkably in comparison.
