This debate seems to come up a lot. What do you think the drinking age should be and why?

"There isn't that much difference in maturity between 21 and 18," she said. "If the age is younger, you're getting exposed to it at a younger age, and you don't freak out when you get to campus." iReport.com: What do you think?

I'm sorry but lowering the age isn't going to help them not "freak" out when they get to college, most of the young adults who binge drink during college did the exact same thing in High School.  I don't think that just the college years are the problem I believe it starts before then during the teen high school years.  JMHO

I also think that there is a huge difference in the level of maturity in 18 years olds to 21 years old at age 18 some teens have that mentality of "I'm now an adult that means I can do whatever I want with no consequences" which is wrong!

I don't think that they have enough facts to support this decision on changing the age.  But on the other hand I see it as at age 18 your old enough to die for your country to you should be old enough to have a beer.

I think it should be lowered to 18 although I don't think it'll make much of a difference either way. Once you hit college, it doesn't matter how old you are, you'll find a way to get alcohol if you want it. Older friends always told me that drinking loses it's excitement once you're old enough to do it and it's true. All i wanted was to turn 21 so i could go out and drink without worry....but when u can do it all u want, it just loses its appeal real fast. When you're told you can't drink, well then it seems that much more appealing and you'll do whatever it takes to be able to. Whether the age is 21 or 18- there will still be kids getting alcohol, they'll still drink and drive, and there will still be binge drinking. But maybe if they do lower the drinking age, there will be less risky behavior because those kids won't have to figure out ways to get alcohol and ways to be sneaky about it. just my thoughts....

I have heard about the once it's legal it's no fun anymore but just think about how easy it'll be for younger teens in high school to get alcohol once the 18 year old seniors can get it whenever they want?

I'm not against drinking I myself have drank and yes got in trouble (with parent not the law) when I was being ignorant and carefree about it which I will never do again.  Am I going to drink later on it life?  Yes but I'm not the type of girl that likes to go out and get plastered, that right there just makes you look stupid and immature.

"All i wanted was to turn 21 so i could go out and drink without worry....but when u can do it all u want, it just loses its appeal real fast."

Using this logic (and I totally agree with this.....drinking lost a LOT of its appeal when I turned 21), perhaps if they lower the age to 18, then it'll lose its appeal, and they wont' want to drink as much. Maybe? I don't know. I think this really is a lose-lose situation.......because either way, like you said, there'll be kids out there drinking.
