What was the worst Christmas gift you ever received?

For me it was a sweater I recieved in the 90's. It was of an 80's style, so my guess was it was old. My guess was confirmed when caught the scent of a musty attic.

So what was your worst gift? Come and share!

When I was 10 or so I got a can of generic brand peas from my grandmother. It was wrapped with a bow on top so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just Granny going senile. And she had to ship it from Washington to Arizona. Both siblings also got canned veggies but I don't remember what they were. That was the last year we got gifts from that particular grandmother.

And the thing that has always stuck with me is that it was a GENERIC brand of peas. She couldn't even be bothered to pay a few extra pennies for the name brand stuff.

OH MY DO I HAVE A LOAD OF STORIES ON THIS ONE.....

I could write a book!!!

My mom's aunt & uncle lived in the midwest.  They were very sweet, modest but a little out of touch older couple!  She was the only family mom had and she would ship us gifts everyyear.  They were complete duds! We would leave her gifts for last & just crack up while we opened the "gems" as auntie used to call them.  She sent all sorts of weird things, mostly useless odds & ends, but I still have a rain poncho she sent me the year I started college!

My MIL is also one that gives weird gifts. I don't even know where to start!  I got a roll of paper towels for my first anniversary.  And then there's the year that I asked for a pair of Reebok sneakers (going way back)! So, one day she comes over after going to the local flea market with a pair of sneakers for me to try on.  I couldnt care less where she got them---if they were the color/style I was looking for why shouldn't she get a bargain.

I opened the box and inside was a pair of PURPLE RICHARDS SIMMONS SNEAKERS!   And not only were they purple & did they say Richard Simmons on them...they had a pictue of his face on the tongue!! So everytime you looked at your feet---he was staring back up at you!!!

HORRIFIED... I looked at my dh with this "help me" look on my face.  He got her attention & I slipped them on & off again quickly & mumbled something about them NOT fitting.  She kept them! I have as many stories as years we've been together.  It's always some wacky something or another with her.

You can't be that bad.. I've still got my Christmas cards from last year sitting here waiting to be sent. I was just looking at them earlier and wondering if I stuck them in the mail now if everyone would just think I was early for this year.
