I write at my desk, either at home or my daughters home. It's usually quiet, occasionally I will listen to kirtan, or the TV in another room. Generally I like to be able to hear my own thoughts though when writing. I keep a lamp lit so that I can see the keyboard when I need to. I use a laptop with a mouse and second monitor. I have reference materials and projects on both sides of me on every available space including on top of the printer. It probably appears chaotic, but I know pretty much exactly where very thing of mine is in both offices.

How about you?

I JUST moved and have an actual office for the first time ever.  Its in pretty bad shape right now-DH and I practically live in here and I haven't gotten it organized like I like it to be.  But writing for me can happen anywhere.  It really depends on my mood and what my brain is doing that day.  Some days I need quiet, organized space at a desk with a computer.  Other days I need to have music playing, a notebook on my lap and a pen in my hand.  Sometimes the words just won't come until I am out of the usual environment-I've gone to the beach, to the library, to Starbucks, sometimes I just sit in my car at the park.

I write by candlelight and I have to be in a completely organized space, otherwise I get really distracted....

I write mainly longhand, with notes scattered everywhere.  I take classes on-line, and I can only do this at night when everything and everyone is in bed, my laptop is logged in to my school and the notebook is by my side.  Not a very productive environment, but it works for now.
