My dd who is 13 yrs. old would like to read My Sisters Keeper. Being mom I think of her as still being too young so what do you all think who have read it. Also She wants to read some of my Karen Kingsbury books & I don't know which one to give her to try. Any suggestions?

Hi Dee -

I can't help you with My Sister Keeper, but as for the Karen Kingsbury books....they are all pretty emotional and deep. It would be up to you as to the maturity of your daughter, mentally. I hope that makes sense. The couple of her books I have read I would not let a 13 year old read because they were so deep and emotional.

I hope others will post and give you some more advice.

If you can get some Lurlene McDaniel books, your daughter might enjoy those. She typically writes about teens who face tough situations or illness, so that would give the Sister's Keeper kind of vibe without any possible language. (I've read one Jodi Picoult and I'd say she's definitely for adults.) And Lurlene packs the emotion into her books, like Karen Kingsbury, but she does aim for the younger audience.

I now run away from books and authors that tend toward tearjerker plots, though my mum still raves about Nicholas Sparks every time she reads one of his. I'm just too hormonal to deal with all that! LOL Not quite realistic, but I like happy endings. ;)
