I have no idea why I haven't read this book until now, and I'm so glad I finally did!

The characters are so lifelike, so fully drawn (I read that somewhere) The kids are so true to life that I wonder if the author was writing about some of her own experiences? I can believe that there were truly people like that in some southern town in those days. What an important record of a terrible time in our country's history.

You must read it if you haven't yet.

I was going to re-read that one for banned book week however I had too many librarybooks to read.  I didn't get around to re-reading.  I think it is a very good book.

I agree with you COMPLETELY, Lynn!  That is EXACTLY how I felt when I read this for the first time a few years ago.  I was amazed at how completely readable and powerful it is. I also still can't believe that I got through school without having ever been assigned this.  I think it should definitely be required reading for everyone!  It's now on my list of all-time favorites and may be my absolute favorite.  Just wonderful.

Lynn... Hey long time to see!!!... have not been around the boards much lately and when I come back I see you are here still !  Awesome... reading lots of the same stuff I like too.  Hope all is well with you!

I just finished re-reading this book again as my dd had it assigned in High School and I remember having to read this in HS but apparently I didn't "remember" much of it lol...  After she was done we watched the movie too.  Very powerful book.... glad I "got it" second time out lol

So good to hear from you! Wow, it has been so long. Can you believe our girls are 10 now? My daughter Hilary got married yesterday (civil ceremony.) She's 24 now. Her husband is a Marine and they are moving to Alabama on Tuesday. ~sniff~sniff~ I'll send you a link to the photos if you're interested. email me at lynns@dslextreme dot com

Good to hear from you! oh, I already said that. Well, I really mean it.

Love Lynn
