Dakota Fanning seems to be a very good voice artist for animation. I really enjoyed the work she and her sister did on "My Neighbor Totoro", and was equally impressed on Coraline.
Coraline is it is a great visual treat, taking Stop Motion to it's limits. I see that model making got a helping hand in this film with the new 3-D printers that are available. Having said that, the sheer number of models animated, and the size of the sets are incredible.
The lighting is fantastic, even subtle things like cloud shadows racing through a scene. This film is all about light, as it is such a dark film overall. The wrong lighting would have left you with nothing to see.
French and Saunders, we noticed the voices were on the opposite bodies to what you'd expect, but it turns out the director didn't like their original roles, and swapped them. I don't know if the puppets were modeled after the actors.
I can never look at a Scotty dog the same way again.
I still haven't explored much Neil Gaimen, the first few encounters he seemed like a Dark Lord Pratchett. Now I think that I might give his books another go.
I will highly recommend Coraline to all who like a good Wonderland type tale, can go with a dark story of hope, and love animation, though some of the caricatures are a little extreme for my normal tastes.
Now we want to rewatch Corpse Bride.
