Wishing everyone a good and sweet year.
Hoping this finds everyone happy and well.
Maggie.
I'm settling in. I've been writing. It's not the East Coast, I miss New England. Trying to see things with open eyes; appreciate the wonderful aspects of California Bay Area. It is beautiful and consistently warm with a cool breeze, not muggy. My neighbors apparently have never met anyone like me- lol.
[in a good way wink]
There is an incredibly delightful young couple with a 3 year old daughter from Pakistan/Muslims-right next to me. The daughter is in love with my youngest, wants to play with him all the time, she daily asks her parents for a big brother, because my middle son, 11, who is old enough to take her to the park and on the sidewalks, riding her new bike w/training wheels, which her parents got her last week because she wanted to be just like my boys. lol
Directly above me, there is a 73 yr old woman who i swear i thought was in very early 60's, and her 49 yr old daughter. They are Assyrians from Baghdad who are Christians. The second day I was here, I was at the laundry area, i guess my kids left the door open, and when i returned there was a huge platter of biscuit like round cookies and a box of godiva chocolates. I knew immediately it was from the mother. Later on, she down some food, which i'd never seen before. It was great.
The apt above the Pakistan couple was empty until a couple of weeks ago. But the are a very blond couple with a son, about 10, and lots of cats. From what i heard from the Baghdad mother, the blond people are moving out in October b/c as soon as they moved in the woman found out from her job that they are going to relocate her to washington d.c.
Jews, Muslims and Assyrians living next to each other, sitting outside on the stairs, talking and laughing and geniunely learning and like each other, watching our kids play. sigh.
if i could blink. the world would be as such.
off to eat the pasta my sons made while i took a nap [b/c my youngest is keeping everyone up with his outrageously loud snoring]
and i just was brought a plate of apples and honey. somehow my kids think by doing these things i somehow will miracuosly forget how much they were fidgeting about walking about making noise during morning service. which normally doesn't bother me, b/c it is usually understandable AFTER they've sat there for over an hour or so and usually they are more quiet but this morning- from the moment we got there.. it was as if i had three toddlers. oy vey!
