Sylvia Plath: love her, hate her, torn between the two?  Can't see what all the fuss is about, or just want to slam me for not being a Plathie?  Give us your viewpoint ... and please be specific; don't just give us a wishy-washy quick answer.  Inquiring minds want to know!

Like I said, "never heard of her until you mentioned her here" since then she has cropped up with uncanny regularity in/on other projects of mine.  I cannot say I love or hate her on my short aquaintence with her but from what little I know and have seen about her then I tend to fall on the side of love, with reservations, as I intend to get to grips with her sometime soon.

I think she was born in Boston, a neighbour of yours?  What did she do, kick your dog or something?

She lived for some time with Ted up in North Yorkshire, where my grandkids live, and the two poems of hers that I posted are about the countryside there, I just loved them, hence, she has a headstart in my affections.

If she kicked my dog, she wouldn't have had the opportunity to try her hand at suicide.

You want to know what it is?  She was weak; I despise weak women.  I expect way more from my own sex than of yours (especially from New Englanders where we tend to swallow weak women whole!).  She was clingy, needy, paranoid, self-effacing, smothering ..."want me to continue," asked the CL rhetorically.   And it all shows in her work.

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone wants to rip me a new one now.

One more thing: she was one of THE most interesting people on this planet.  And for not leading a hum-drum life, I bow to her.

Wow, you really let her have it there Pat.LOL I am no fan of Plath, I just look at it all with morbid interest...I mean she does herself in (with the kids in the house mind you), then her husband's next woman does the same and years later Sylvia's son ends it all as well.
She had it all and tossed it away--she was one paranoid person who seemed overly obsessed with her father. I'm not gonna crit her work, as I have only read a handful of her poems and so far, well I haven't gone back to read more...
