Do you think Facebook's (My Space, Blogger, etc) killing the forums?

I'm so glad that you asked this question, (not that I can answer it properly) but because our lovely Char and Julie Gobern have asked me in the recent past to sign in as their friend and after logging on to 'facebook' I was faced by a daunting array of questions about me which I declined to answer.

I am not being fair to the blog in that I have not tried it but on first impression, I think I can live without it.

A big sorry to Char and Julie.

I doubt if it affects certain ones such as our own PW...oh but maybe I should take that back...I nearly forgot that you can indeed join in on literary blog on facebook...I was looking at it more like a personal thing, so you may be right there Pat. But for me, here at PW is more personal and I do hope it stays around for a long time to come. Places like facebook just are not for some people, like Good Sir, is not interested...and you can almost include moi as well...you see I really don't participate much on there...it really is DH going on under my name! I was kind of pushed into it by my kids to sign up. In the beginning I found it interesting, hooked up with a few long lost friends, relatives and reconnected, that was nice but for the most part there's too much stuff posted that I am just not wanting to be bothered with...and I don't care who is on their way to work or what color shoes they're wearing today! I admit I have gotten hooked on some of their SILLY games like farmville...LOL

My RT group guilted me into joining.  It's certainly not inspired any poetry, I'll tell ya that.  Quizzes, I love the quizzes, but damn, talk about a time-waster -- it's worse than Cubis!

That's a good question. I joined myspace originally for the simple purpose of watching what my kids were doing, then i joined facebook to talk to a cousin and friend who live in Florida. I don't really use it for poetry or professional purposes, and I really get annoyed with the "out to dinner" or "i love my so and so so much" Ugh! I do like to play farmville (i am hooked on that just like char) but for the most part i don't participate just look. I do look at some of the poetry sites but i don't post any work on there, (except links to published pieces for my aunt Joanna on my home page) it is not, i guess... specific enough, too many people who could say what they wanted that perhaps don't have any real experience or knowledge, i prefer to stay in the pw forum because not only is it personal, friendly, but those here are genuinely into the "work" and not interested in dissecting just for the sake of dissecting, does that make sense, lol.
