Well my October got off to a GREAT start-we moved into our first house this weekend!! So now I have my own office (yay!) and I will have all my books on bookshelves in there and my computer and a comfy chair to sit on and write if I don't want to sit at the desk anymore.
So this month is going to be fairly busy with unpacking and getting the house and yard together.
In writing news, I am still working on Happy. I have almost finished the outline-I am planning on finishing by next Monday-and then I want to start writing out the exercises in the book. I would like to have all the exercises in the book done or the ideas developed by the end of October.
I am also going to get back to writing fiction this month-I am still developing my idea but it hasn't gotten much farther than it was. I'm Ok though, because I really couldn't do any work at all for most of the week that we moved and cleaned up the old apartment.
Halloween plans are still up in the air right now. My DH has a Halloween party at his work, it is family friendly so we are planning on going and taking Miss Lily. Lily and I are going to go in costumes that are related, but I haven't decided what. Either I am going to go as a witch and she will go as my black cat familiar, or I will go as Mother Nature and she will be my flower or butterfly.
As for Halloween itself, I am hoping to have a Halloween/NaNo kick off party at my house. I don't know if it will work, because most of my NaNo buddies live about an hour away from me, but last year I went to one and we hung out and talked and partied until midnight and then we all sat down and wrote for 2 hours. Now that I have Lily I won't be able to do that, because I can't have her out until after midnight, but if it were at my house we could put her down and still have the party.
I'm having a hard time realizing it's October. We had such a glorious September, it seemed as though summer would go on and on. Today it's about 40 degrees, breezy and spitting rain, so the endless summer thing was most definitely an illusion (or was it delusion?).
October seems to be the month when things shift in my life. I finished my seasonal government job yesterday and now I have the luxury of working only one job after splitting my time between two for the last month and a half. The silly restaurant job will go until the end of the month and then takes a two-month seasonal hiatus. I'm very, very much looking forward to the break in the waitressing although I'll most likely go back to it for another three months in the middle of winter and before concluding that chapter of my life. If I didn't want to travel in April, I might forgo the restaurant in lieu of more writing time.
In other news this month, October marks my moving into a 12x20 "Shack" with the bf in the middle of the woods. It may be teeny, but after running around all summer between this "Shack", my parents' house, and his mother's cabin, it's nice to have a place that's all our own. The Kitchen-Aid mixer and houseplants finally have a home and I have a little desk area shoved in a corner with my reference books, notebooks and laptop. We'll look for slightly larger digs once I figure out at least some semi-permanent employment.
As for writing, I'm hoping to get to work on some essays as well as continue my revision work on the novel. Now that I'm living with the bf, I think I'll have to follow in Tori's footsteps and figure out a somewhat inflexible writing schedule. It'll be too easy to get distracted otherwise.
I have no real plans for Halloween, although I've sprinkled the few decorations I have around the house. Perhaps a pumpkin-shaped cake is in order.
Eeek! Is it October already! That means it's time to get busy with lots and lots of academic writing :) :( :/ <:-o (as you can see, I have mixed emotions about that). Anyway, I will be busy this month. So far I have two very large projects on deck. The first one deals with images of captivity in Samuel Richardson's Clarissa. Currently, I am working on completing a lit review for that project, which will be about 8-10 pages outlining criticism, texts, and discussions that I plan to use in my larger study. The second project explores discipline in More's Utopia. This will not be as expansive as the Clarissa project.
Somewhere in there I need to come up with an idea for a 20-ish page paper on something George Eliot. All of these papers will be due between mid November and, say, December 3rd. So, I *doubt* I will have any Nano time this year.
I'm still working on my current WIP, but have hit a slight bump in the road: My dear, sweet, and very active 12 week old puppy ate through my laptop cord yesterday! My fault. But, as that laptop has a terrible battery, I doubt that it will have enough juice for me to move my file onto a flash drive. So, I may be waiting until the replacement cord arrives from Amazon. Did I mention that it's $78.00. Ouch.
Our Halloween plans are always simple. I don't do parties, at least not the adult kinds, for Halloween. But, I will be taking my daughter and one or two of her friends trick-or-treating. And, I'm pretty sure that she is planning on having them stay over for a "spooky" sleepover.

A Writer on the verge. A Writer on the brink. A Writer weary to the point she can hardly think! Her manuscripts are dog-eared, her pens are out of ink, computer's gone on strike and the printer's on the blink. But nothing will prevent her from writing through the night, glad for all she must endure to live the writing life.
Wow, Rebecca! You've had quite an October already and it's only the 2nd!
Your office sounds like it's getting ready to go. Now, how long do you think it will take to unpack the rest of the house? Seriously, you've got some serious work ahead of you. Don't let it get the best of you.
Your writing plans sound as organized as your move. That NaNo party sounds like fun. Think your DH would go for a pajama party for the writers? How many can sleep in your office? I'll shut up before I get you in trouble.
Either costume you choose for Halloween sounds adorable. Those are my choices for characters too. I don't need costumes! LOL!
