Postmaster General of the U.S. announced Wednesday, October 14, there would be no postage increase in 2010. This news was given to magazine publishers at the MPA Innovation Summit.

I hope this does not apply only to periodicals. The reasons for holding the line on price should hold for all customers of the USPS. Packages might be moving on brown airplanes (or FedEx) if USPS rates get too high. E-mail is replacing snail mail wherever possible.

They are still contemplating eliminating Saturday deliveries. As long as the counters are open Saturdays to accept mail and parcels, I don't think that would cause an uproar.

The final decision on our postage rates should be made in November. Let's hope the gas they save on Saturday can keep our postage rates from going up.

I sure hope the postmaster's words aren't only for the periodicals. It seems like every time I have to go buy stamps they've gone up another penny or two each. What seems like almost constant price hikes can only increase the USPS's already awkward position in modern society.

I wouldn't mind so much if they could just make a slightly more attractive "Forever" stamp!

We're still struggling with 37-cent Christmas stamps and assorted other lower value postage. One of these days I'll get to the post office when it's open and splurge on a book of Forever stamps.

Needless to say, I've missed a bunch of stamps I wanted to get. Let's all hope we can afford the next ones.
