When I start to work out or I focus on being more active, I notice for the first week or two I actually gain about a pound. I'm just wondering why that is. I've been drinking more water, staying away from sweets more than usual, & have been more active...yet I've gained a pound. Most of the attempts I've made at losing weight the last few years have been "scale" based & this trend the first couple of weeks has been discouraging. This time I'm making it a point to think about how good it feels to be healthy, not just the scale, so I'll keep on going. I'm just wondering if any of you have had this same thing happen or any ideas why?

Hi Christina,

I have my own little theory about that...... not based on anything scientific and maybe totally wrong, but my personal experiences have proven to me that when I become more active, especially spending time out doors I tend to retain a little bit of water.

I think is great that you are not doing this "scale based", but on how you are feeling.  Sometimes the scale is not always an accurate gauge for progress.  Weight can fluctuate a couple of lbs a day for no apparent reason, but the pant-o-meter (when you take your freshly washed jeans out of the hot dryer and they are getting baggy, you know you have progress. )

You are doing wonderful!

Hugs,

Carrollee
