Hi there ... welcome to the board! I'm sorry to hear your doctor is unconcerned with your skin frustrations. I know it's not always possible to switch doctors, but ideally, you should have the type of communication and relationship with your doctor that would mean he/she is VERY concerned with making sure you are comfortable.
I don't have your condition but I do know the symptoms you describe are very common with thyroid issues, especially hypothyroidism. I would definitely make sure you are on the right dosage of the hormone replacements. I know several friends w/ thyroid problems and all of them went through several adjustments to their medications before feeling their 'best' and getting rid of all the symptoms.
Beyond that, I am wondering what you are already using on you skin and/or what you've tried. Dry skin can certainly be treated separately from the thyroid problem (although I believe you'll get your best results all around if we can get your doctor to double check your meds and address your skin concerns).
There are some really great moisturizers for very dry skin out there. Some brand recommendations:
Eucerin - several formulas depending on what you're looking for. I love the Original version for dry skin, and I also love the Plus line for when you need some exfoliation (alpha hydroxy acids to help skin turn-over and smoothness). Eucerin has a Calming line for itchiness, but I personally haven't liked the itch-relief of these products (great lotions, just not any less itchy when I used them).
Aveeno - Advance Care Moisturizing Cream (also in a body wash) and Overnight Itch Relief Cream are designed specifically for dry, itchy skin, although the entire Aveeno line is great for dry, itchy skin. I personally LOVE the new Aveeno Shower and Bath Oil ... it has made a huge difference in my dry skin. (I use it in the shower). I also love the Aveene Creamy Moisturizing Oil. It's very light but very effective.
There are others, but I think those are the better ones for both dryness and itch that you can get readily pretty much anywhere. I know for me, I have to use moisturizers consistently and frequently ... skipping a day can make a huge negative difference.
I hope that helps a bit. Please keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions. :O)

Thank you Steph for the great siggy!
