Hi all,

Just wondering if there were any other Retin A users out there to talk to!  I'm currently in week 7 and so far my skin is looking better, but I'm still having breakouts on my chin.  Plus the peeling there is soooooo bad!  I look ridiculous!  Just wondering how everyone else is fairing on the treatment and when you started to notice that the peeling and burning started to subside.  The first 6 weeks on the treatment were fine.  It's just this past week that the acne has flared up and the intense peeling has begun!  Ugh! :)

Hi there ... welcome to the board!

What formulation of Retin A are you using?  (which strength, and is it regular or Retin A Micro?)

When I was using it, my worst peeling and breaking out was within the first 2 to 4 weeks.  My first Retin A experience was with regular Retin A lotion/creme and it was MUCH harder on my skin than the Retin A Micro I used several years later.  It's normal to have an increase in breaking out while your skin 'purges' all the hidden ickies, but it does seem to be taking a long time for you.  Also, if your peeling is pretty bad, your doctor may want to change your routine up a bit - either by decreasing the strength, decreasing the frequency of application, or switching to the Micro if you're using the regular.  It's definitely worth a phone call to the nurse to see if you should worry or change anything you're currently doing.  Also, make sure you are consistently using a good moisturizer.  And don't be tempted to use MORE of the Retin A on the breakouts ... more will just burn and peel more, NOT speed up clearing.  And definitely don't use any other treatments on your skin unless your doc has said it's ok.

Let us know if there is anything else we can help with, and keep us posted on your treatment!  :O)

Hi there,

thanks for your response!  I am using Retin A Micro .04.  Today is the first day that I am seeing some improvement on my chin (thank goodness).  What I ended up doing was skipping 2 days of treatment on my chin.  I'm thinking that I may have overdone it with the micro on my chin area (which I know is a big DON'T).  So I'm going to try to use it again tonight and see what happens.  Hopefully the little break I gave it will help.

On the other hand though, I have to say that the rest of my skin looks fantastic!  It's just my damn chin!

Sounds like you have it figured out.  Hope your skin continues to clear and look fabulous!  I know taking a day or two break has really helped me before when things were just getting too dry and irritated.  Thanks for the update!  :O)
