So, yesterday was my first AA meeting. I totally didn't want to go. Did I say that I didn't want to go? I SO meant it. But... today, I'm am looking forward to it. I got a coin yesterday from them to start my journey - it has this 24 hour reminder that seemed to help me make it through the last 24 hours without alchohol. Last night I did want to drink. I got this idea in my head that it would be cool to have my first day of soberity as 9.9.9 - but than I thought about the 1 month of soberity. If I make it until 10.8.09 I will celebrate one month on my dad's birthday. That seemed more important to me, so I didn't drink. I've been feeling depressed though. You know, we moved to this new city and I work from home so I've got like cabin fever. I think that's another reason why I like AA, it gives me somewhere to go. I need to start getting to the gym too. This is my last week of regular work and then I'll be doing work for our own company, but it's still at home.

So, that's my day so far....

Caroline

PS - I dumped out the vodka, so there isn't any alcohol in the house but my husband's beer and wine that he occasionally drinks. I seem to be ok so far not touching that.

..hey Caroline...I hope that you are enjoying your meeting...I think exercising is a great idea...drunk or sober...so, it's an added plus to a sober day...plus, a tired body will rest better...good luck...and, congratulations on the coin...

I agree it's a good way to get out and do something different.  Meet new people.  Maybe go out for coffee.  some people do that after meetings.  not sure where you live but it's always kind of fun to try out different meetings as well.  Each group has its own personality and you may find one that you really really like.  I moved back to the town I grew up in and tried out a bunch of different meetings.  It really felt strange, exploring these somewhat familiar places with a different attitude...

and WTG on dumping out the vodka!   see you tomorrow!

I hope you enjoyed that second meeting.  Congratulations on the first step in your journey into a sober life.

For me, it was a great benefit of sobriety in AA to have friends again, people I could relate to and trust.  Drinking for me meant isolation at home with my wine--no fun at all.

Do your best to connect with the people in AA, they can be your social group in your new home city.  Maybe you can find another lady in your group to walk with or be a workout buddy.

Good luck and WTG with pouring out the booze.  I personally believe that people in early sobriety have every right to a completely alcohol-free home environment.  You have the right to ask your husband to not bring it home or drink around you.  If he wants your success, he'll likely be glad to accomodate your request.
