The right lung of a human is larger than the left one. This is because of the space and placement of the heart.

Maybe this explains why the left side may experience more pain if an imbalance exists.  Hope this one does it.

I hadn't thought of that, Ms Florida! It very well could be what you've said, but the heart also is more to the the left side of the chest. (At least that's what I was told.)
