I just had a major heart attack due to stress and insomnia. (I have low blood pressure and no other risk factors).   I wanted to do Dr. Ornish's Reversal diet, but it is vegetarian, and I need protein.  I am allergic to soy, and beans give me gout.   (When I tried to be a vegetarian 20 years ago I ended up with hair loss and bad skin. A dietician said I wasn't getting enough protein.)        So, what do I do???  I would like to eat fish and chicken, etc. but Ornish says not to even use olive oil !!! (which I use liberally on all my veggies) or nuts.

Now what??  Any suggestions.  (note: a Prevention diet does include these things, but I need to do a Reversal.)

Hello and welcome! I'm sorry to read of your heart attack!

Take a look at Chef Emeril's site, which has all kinds of vegetarian recipes that offer a good deal of protein. Then post back and let me know what you think. If you still don't find something helpful, I'll be more than happy to go down another path with you, so to speak.

With heart hugs~

My thoughts would be to go for the chili & soy beans, nuts, eggs & dairy, if they're appropriate for you.  I'm not all sure about the vegetarian path, except in situations, where you require it.  I'm not sure about following your doctor's advice, if a 2nd opinion can help.

Interested that you said your heart attack was due to stress and insomnia.  Just learned last week that I had a small blockage which resulted in having to have a stent put in.  This year I also did a sleep study and started using a C-PAP.  Did your dr's tell you this was related to your heart attack.  Thanks

I don't believe we've met, yet! I also have a stent and sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine at night. (I detest using that thing!) :) I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts. Very interesting!
