When did you get your first job and how long did you stay there? I worked as a nurses aide from my senior year in HS until I graduated from college as an RN. They made me work as a nurse after that. Hmm...
Did you work after you had kids? Yes. I had 6 weeks off after my first dd. Also most 3 months after my second dd.
How did you decided whether or not to work once the babies were born or did you wait until they left home? Like so many women, there were financial obligations. Not returning was never an option):
How have you balanced life and job/career? I think I did ok. My house was actually cleaner & more orderly when I worked. I did work a lot of overtime & took many extra on call hours in the operating room. I tried to get all my activities outside of the home, done & even inside(chores) so I could spend as much time as possible w/my family. I used to say, I was *in* for the night. That could be 5pm, I liked being @ home so much. Now I am free to do as I please & probably do more outside the home than in. If I went back to work tomorrow, my expectations wouldn't be as high as they used to be. I would not expect today to be all things to all people. I would not do the overtime that I used to & I would make that clear before I took the job. Would/could/should I make it work? Time will tell.

I got my first job shortly after I graduated nursing school and I was only 21. Ten years ago! My first day was my 21st birthday and I took that to be a good sign.

Was in that job for four years after which I got married and moved to Europe. I took a couple of years' hiatus then.

As for the work/home balance, I am blessed to be working only limited hours in the month (around a week all together) and that leaves me plenty of time for my family and my teaching and writing. It is like I do three part time jobs and they all work!
