Where to get counseling if I'm broke?

Hello, all....I have been here off and on over the past 5 years, and seem to come back when things get rough...so here I am.

I need ideas...I desperately need to talk to someone, too much is happening in my life right now (very painful divorce, terrible financial problems, loss of my job and no new one in sight, etc.) and I need help sorting things out.  I'm a severe case of Bipolar II - borderline schizophrenic and so I need to keep seeing my psychiatrist at a whopping $270 per visit - he's not covered by my insurance, plus I've got all my copays on my meds.  This doesn't leave any room for a visit to a therapist.

Does anyone else have this problem, and what are you doing about it?  Any ideas are greatly appreciated....thank you...

A local mental health clinic will take patients on a sliding scale. So do the psych docs at a local mental health clinics. You can also call around to different therapist to see if they charge on a sliding scale. Some times new graduates will do this also. In my state (maryland) we have a ProBono Counseling Project, which means they have therapist that offer to see low income clients for free. Maybe you can see if your state has something like this. You can also call 1-800-273-TALK and they will direct you to local affiliates to help get you counseling you can afford. They are part of the Mental Health America. I wish you all the best in finding a counselor.
