Has anybody had one of these? Are they painful? How big is the actual needle if they're not doing a core sample?

I can read online for days and days, and hear "most patients experience no pain or discomfort" but that doesn't mean a lot to me. Colonoscopies aren't supposed to hurt afterwards, but I've had 3, and 2-3 days post-procedure, it's painful!

Just a little freaked out. Still having pain 5 days after my OB did an exam and said he felt something odd, then referred me to a surgeon. I'm 27 and I've never had pain in my breasts unless I do something blatant to hurt them, ya know? Now, he pokes/prods/squeezes for 10 minutes, and I'm still sore nearly a week later? That's not right. =(

I have had 2 of them. The one in my breast where they were doing the biopsy on my breast tumor wasn't bad at all. the numb the area pretty good. The second time was in what the Dr. had thought were enlarged lymph nodes in my left axilla and that was somewhat painfull for some reason, probably because they turned out to be neurofibromas. Meaning there were nerves in them so to speak. When they take the samples, like 5 grabs, it's like pressure rather than pain, it's like a ball point pen clicking. That is how I would describe it.

I had an US guided core biopsy in June.  My tumor was against my chest wall, they got 4 good samples which turned out to be IDC.  I was 'tender' for a few days.  Everyone is different, there is no way to predict your level of pain or discomfort.  After reading your other post, the important thing is to find out what is going on with your breast.  Any biopsy-related pain or discomfort you experience will go away.  It could very well be nothing, 80% of breast lumps are benign.  But if it is something, early detection & intervention could be life-saving.  Good for you for pursuing answers.  Don't let anyone tell you that breast cancer doesn't hurt, it can and it does; but that doesn't mean you have it, I just want to point out some doctors use that excuse or 'your'e too young' not to investigate further.  All the best to you & please keep us posted.

mine was painful, not childbirth painful, but it hurt, but they had localized drugs to give me to help with the pain and all I had to do was ask for more.    Your office should offer the same thing.
