Hi all, I am very new to this board but I have a lot of questions going through my mind LOL.  Is there a link to a FAQ board so I don't have to bombard you all with tons of questions?  Specifically questions pretaining to having a consultaion.  I don't have one scheduled and I don't know when to schedule one if I am at least 6 - 8 months out before I could have a procedure done.  How soon do you schedule??  I don't know all the right questions to ask a potential surgeon.

I've done some lurking and it seems as though BA has been a positive experience for you all.  I am 39 and have 4 kids.. thus I am feeling and looking "deflated" and would like a change.  Along with BA I am interested in tummy tuck but I can't seem to find a message board for that so if anyone here has experience with that I would love to hear about it.

TIA,

Chelle

hi chelle,
I just went through the consultation process myself and will be going in for my pre-op appt tomorrow. I don't think it's too early for you to go to your consultation. My ps suggested a couple websites that have some great information. One is called www.loveyourlook.com the other is www.implantinfo411.com. She wanted me to go on the sites and look at the before and after pictures. The great thing is you can put in your current cup size and the cup size you want to go to and then see which patients have similar heights and weights as you. I'm going to print out a few and take them to my pre-op to make sure my ps and I are on the same page. The sites also have some other good information that might help you come up with some questions for your consult. I know one important thing you'll want to make sure of is that the surgeon is board certified.
For my consult most of my questions were regarding saline vs. Silicone, pros and cons of each, (i held both to feel the difference) suggested incision site, what I can expect regarding recovery, at the end I received the price quote of both.
hopefully some other girls on this board can offer some other suggestions!
good luck!

oops -sorry - was typing from memory & realized I got that site wrong. I just checked and the correct site is www.breastimplants411.com. The other one is www.implantinfo.com. Those are the two recommended by my PS.
The third one I've been checking out is www.loveyourlook.com which I mentioned above. That was mentioned in one of the brochures I recieved from Mentor which is a breast implant manufacturer so I guess it's good to know who is sponsoring the site while reading the information. In any case, it's helpful because of the before & afters.

hth!

You may want to book your consult now, when I booked mine I had a year to wait to get in to see the PS I wanted to go to.

Welcome to the board Chelle!  I personally think the most important thing is to go in with a clear idea of what you want, then really listen to the PS as he talks about what he envisions for you and how he plans to get you there.  (Is he pushing you to go big when you'd rather stay on the smaller side?  Is he insisting on a particular incision site that you're not comfortable with? ...)

Some specific things to ask about:

  • What's his training and experience?
  • Where will he perform the surgery?  What's the back-up plan if there's an emergency?  And what hospital priveleges does he have?
  • Who does the anasthesia?  (If he says he does it himself, run for the hills.  You want somebody specifically trained and licensed for the job.)
  • Ask to see before and after photos of other patients.  They should be clinical-type shots that show only the chest area.  Do not accept any storylines about invasion of privacy.

HTH!
