My surgery is 2 weeks from tomorrow! I feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. I have also had this urge to clean and sort every closet and drawer in the house. I'm majorly nesting! I'm just trying to get everything organized beforehand since i know I won't be feeling like doing it after. Part of my motivation is that I'm hosting my husbands family for Thanksgiving. I just hope I'm feeling good by then. I'll just make sure my husband lifts the turkey! I'm also concerned about how I'll look at thanksgiving. I really don't want his family to know so I'm hoping I'm not too swollen or huge. Maybe I'll just hide in huge sweaters!

does anyone have any other suggestions on what types of tops I should buy ahead of time to conceal the swelling? are buttondowns good (if not too snug?)

any other suggestions of things I should do ahead of time? I have my prescriptions filled, I'll make sure to buy some frozen peas (read that on here already). anything else?

Congrats!

I had my BA 5 weeks ago tomorrow, I also had some lipo on my flanks at the same time. Honestly NO ONE has noticed that I had one, except my DH! I'm assuming since you don't want people to notice you are not getting anything HUGE. I had my surgery on a Friday and by Monday I was up and about. We took the kids to see a movie and out to lunch. Tuesday, my DH had to go back to work and I was left to handle my 2 and 4 year olds alone. Really, it was fine. Granted I didn't pick them up but I was able to fix them lunch, get them buckled in their car seats, drive, make the bed, throw in some laundry and put dishes in the dishwasher. Our house is for sale, so we had to clear out for a showing that night and I had to pick up the toys and make things presentable.

By Thanksgiving you will have had a few weeks to recover and you should be pretty much back to your normal routine. The only thing I didn't do until just this last weekend was vacuum the house.

As far as tops, you kind of need to wait and see what feels good to you. Until the tape comes off, not much feels good, at least that was my opinion. I did buy 2 wireless bras but other than that I didn't buy anything new and I didn't buy the bras until 2 weeks after my surgery. I wore the tank tops with the built-in bras for a while because that was what was comfortable to me, then I just layered over that according to the weather that day.

Hi Laura,
thanks for the advice. It's great that you were feeling so good that quickly. Hopefully I'll have a similar experience. I can't imagine that you had to show your house during your recovery! that's stressfull enough!

I'm more worried about how my 3 year old will act. He's very attached to me lately & loves to climb all over me - he's in this bad habit lately of coming into our bed in the middle of the night & wants to sleep next to me. I'm trying to break him of it but not having much success. I'm thinking that I should sleep in the guest room while I'm recovering with the door locked so that he doesn't accidentally climb on me. He'll be very unhappy though if he doesn't find me in my bed! I thought he would be at a good age since I don't have to lift him much anymore but the nighttime thing might be tough at first. So not only will my husband have to get up to help me with my meds he'll also be dealing with a crying 3 year old.

I think I will wait until after the surgery to buy a couple tops/bras to wear. I bought one sweater today that sort of wraps around with a belt. I think it'll be good to conceal everything. I am just concerned about looking too huge the first couple of weeks. I want to go from an A to a C but I usually wear padded bras so I'm not sure how much people will notice.

I remember going through the same nesting feeling!  :-D  When I commented on it to a good friend, her response was 'Well you are expecting twins!'  LOL  Seriously though, it was all the same feelings of excitement, trepidation and anticipation as with having a baby.  And it pretty much felt the same afterward as when my milk came in, except there was no baby to let off the pressure.  (Or wake me up every couple hours!)

Button-front shirts will likely be your best friend for the first couple weeks.  Pullovers were just too hard for me to get in and out of.

As to the IL's... just talk things over with DH ahead of time so you're both on the same page, then let him do as much as possible.

Good luck!  Let us know how it goes.  :-)

Hi goddess!  It's been 5 YEARS since I got my BA, but I still remember the excitement/nervousness you're feeling.   A few things you might want to buy before your surgery are:  Arnica Gel (for bruising) and Ora-Gel (helps desensitize your nipples which tend to get really sore, but eventually goes away) and a body buddy pillow.  My doctor wanted me to sleep sitting up for 2 weeks.  When he told me that (before surgery) I didn't understand why.  Well, I 'accidentely' laid down on my back & couldn't get back up! LOL!  My DH had to slip his hand under my back and GRADUALLY lift me back up.  I went from a 34B to 34D (450cc saline) and would go through the pain all over again!  It is soooo worth it!  If I think of anything else that the others haven't mentioned, I'll let you know.  Good luck with your new "twins"!!
