Hopefully I can help you with some of your questions.
The first week, I slept in a recliner, as it was more comfortable to be sitting more upright. I did have to have someone put the lever down for me the first couple days, but after that when I would be home by myself during the day, I just figured out a way to climb out of it with the foot part up. Kind of funny to watch I am sure. But if you choose to sleep in bed, you shouldn't have any problem getting in and out. Have lots of pillows to keep your self from rolling on your side for the first week or two. You are lucky to be staying in the hospital overnight, as they can take care of your drains and monitor your pain, etc. I really didn't have much pain, it was more like being very uncomfortable.
As far as being by yourself, you should be fine. If you have people stopping in, they can help you with laundry, or anything that would require lifting, etc. Just make sure you have all the things you might need, at an easily accessible height, so you don't have to reach. Have button down shirts, or zip hoodies to wear.
Not sure about your stuff in the hospital, but I am sure they will be fine. I just would leave anything of real value at home; jewelry, credit cards and just have a minimal amount of cash, if you are worried about that.
Just be careful with your dog, lifting and/or having him tug on a leash. You want to avoid as much arm use the first week as you can. Be careful not to lift him either. Hopefully he is a pretty self sufficient puppy and you will be fine.
I was a bit sick from the anesthesia, but just let them know that is a concern of yours and they can possibly give you an anti-nausea drug in your IV. My mother in law just had surgery yesterday and they did that for her and she felt great afterwards compared to her last time when she was nauseous for 2 days. So check with the doctor.
PLease don't hesitate to ask any more questions. The first week after surgery, was not the greatest, but it soon got better. Positive thoughts!!!!
