Hi Guys,

Some news to update you on, nothing big, but baby steps are better than none! We (Dh and I) have done some serious talking over the last week or so, about MIL's behaviour and how we both are feeling about it. Dh surprised me - he decided some ground rules needed to be set in relation to contacting us when MIL has been drinking. We have basically decided that she is not to contact us in any way shape or form when she has been drinking, and if she does, the phone call will be ended by us, or she will be taken home, either by cab or by FIL (We have checked with him, and he is willing to help us if we call him). MIL has realized that I am not happy with her, so when we rang to tell her that we needed to talk, she asked us to come up the following day. (My guess is she had been drinking and wanted to sober up before we got there). Any way, we put these conditions to her, and she actually took it quite well. She apologised for her actions last weekend, which is a first, and told us that she has returned to A.A. I know in my heart and soul that she is still drinking, but at least she appears to be making an effort.

Thanks for your support, and I will keep you updated.

Kate

Hello Kate and thanks for the up-date.

I am so happy that you and your dh have decided to set some ground rules. It is so important to be together in this and to know what's best for the family.

I really hope your MIL's AA meetings are helping her. Has she considered some type of rehab?

Thank you so much for the up-date. I can imagine how tough this past week must have been but I am also hoping that you will find more peace now that these boundaries are established. Good for you.

Hugs to you and thanks again for the up-date,

Love Stef
