Hi. Me and my boyfriend went to get tested for stds just to make sure and they gave us meds in case we did. I am on seasonique lo and we had sex a week and a half after the meds instead of waiting the full 2 weeks like we were supposed to. What are my chances of bc failing and pregnancy? Are std antibiotics even a risk? Also this is my 3rd month on them, my dr. gave me a trial...broke through bled once because missed 2 bills in row (even though made up for them). Is there anything I should know about these pills? Like are they effective, bad side effects, etc?

Hi there,

Any time you take antibiotics they can affect the effectiveness of birth control pills and you should use a back up method of birth control, like condoms, while taking and for a few days after taking antibiotics.

The most important thing with the low dose pills like those you're taking is to take them at the same time every day, set an alarm on your phone or watch to remind you when it's time to take them.  Not taking them on time, or missing a pill, can very often result in breakthrough bleeding and can cause the pill to be less effective.
