I'm 24 years old and I have been on the depo for six years now. From what I understood about the depo was that most people gain 5 to 10 lbs within the first year but I never gained any weight . BUT in this last year and a half I have gained 30 lbs without any drastic changes in diet or exercise. In fact I've begun to try to eat better. I'm just wanting to know if anyone has started to gain weight from the depo after taking it for many years or if maybe this is something else I should be focusing on.

Since you've been taking depo for several years already and not experienced weight gain until now, I'd be inclined to think that the weight gain may be from something else.

If you haven't already, it might be a good idea to see your doctor for a full physical workup, including blood tests to check your thyroid and other hormone levels.

Also, if you've started taking other medications, such as antidepressants or certain pain relievers, those could contribute to your weight gain.
