I'm hoping someone can help me with some good advice. I brush my teeth and tongue on a regular basis...I also have one of those straight things that bends and also a razor like thing that cleans the tongue...I'm having a problem with what I call crud on my tongue that I can't get off. I can't brush my tongue for long before I start to gag or vomit...I can't scrape it with my tools before I make it bleed...but I still can't get this crud off my tongue and it's really starting to bother me cuz it feels like it's growing or something. I did have my Dr. give me a script that I swoosh around my mouth but it really didn't do anything...does anyone have any advice on how I can get rid of this crud on my tongue so I don't feel like I have hair growing on it? Thank You for any advice or suggestions you might have:)

Welcome, although I am sorry you needed to find us!

Here is some information I was able to find...

Hairy Leukoplakia

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/leukoplakia/DS00458/DSECTION=8

It is possible that you are trying TOO hard to treat whatever it is and are causing more irritation? Another trip to your doctor and/or dentist is probably a better idea.

hello! i am a dental hygienist so i've seen lots of tongues :P

there's many different things that it could be. do you remember if your dentist gave you a reason or diagnosis for it? what was the stuff to swish with and what was supposed to happen?

do you experience dry mouth? many people have dry mouth and many medications can be the cause, if this is a possibility you may never be able to fully rid yourself of the tongue gunk.

do you have bad breathe? do you drink a lot of coffee?

there's a million things that it could be.

not to sound gross, but a picture would be really helpful.

good luck!
