What do you do with a canker sore on the tongue? I've had mine since May, and it started by accidentally biting one side of my tongue, then taking a Barium Smoothie, and after that it blew up and became an ulcer or canker. It is smaller than it was, but the hole is still there, and the puffy bump next to it still there. It still hurts. I use everything OTC that is avail, and brush my tongue, teeth and floss all the time. I also rinse with peroxide and warm water, listerine and warm water, and use Gly-Oxide. I been to a Doctor when it first blew up, and they said they couldn't do anything about it. There is a white film around it, but nothing that looks infected. Any tips on what to do before I seek more medical attention on it? This is the first time I ever got this, never had anything like it before.

hello! thank you for your question. hopefully i can give you some helpful info.

canker sores are typically white on the inside and a red halo around the outside. also canker sores don't typically last that long so i'm led to believe it's a trauma related issue.

here's a little more info http://www.forces-of-nature.net/topics/herpes/canker_sore_tongue.htm

it's possible you may be using too many things in your mouth and it's causing it more irritation instead of healing.

also, you should not rinse with peroxide unless it is very very diluted. it can cause something called black hairy tongue and trust me you don't want it :P http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/black-hairy-tongue/HQ00325

the rule of thumb is if you have had an oral lesion that has not resolved within 2 weeks see your dentist ASAP.

i would suggest just that, see your dentist.
