I feel strange writing on here...maybe it’s because I never knew I could ever feel this low. My girl friend broke up with me for reasons unknown and yet after 2 months I feel worse today than I did then. I need help and I know not where to go. Financially, I cannot afford anything. I am an unpaid intern finishing up my masters. I need to make it through the year but the complexities of life are heavy. I can't sleep at night and I wake up tired. I go out. I do things to meet others. But I feel like I am losing my mind. I met another young woman. Very beautiful...physically she may even be more attractive than my ex. Interactions with her feel fake though. She likes me but I feel like a piece of me is missing. Maybe a part of my heart...I feel hollow. I do not want to be too explicit but the new girl wanted to be intimate with me. I obliged and we engaged in a passionate minute. And when I say minute, I mean a minute because by little friend downstairs decided he did not want to participate.

Long story short I realize that I must move on. I realize that it will take time. But I need someone to talk to. If anyone knows any free resources in the Los Angeles area that offers counseling or therapy. I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

I'm sorry for the breakup of your relationship, I know from recent experience how difficult that can be.  It will take some time, but you will move on from this.

Is it possible for you to talk to a counselor through your school about what's been going on?  Many colleges/universities offer counselling to their students who may need it for many different reasons, and it's a resource that you should definitely take advantage of.  You might also find some advice/support on our Breaking Up is Hard to Do message board.

Hang in there.

I am glad that you posted on our board.  I know break-ups are hard.  How long did you say you were with her?  Is there any chance that with time, she will come around?

I think it is wonderful that you are going for your masters!!!!!  What are you studying?

I don't know any resources for Los Angeles, but you can look in the phone book under counseling or psychiatry.  You can also call 211 and maybe they can give you the name of free counseling.  Also, try Google and maybe just type in the words, "Free counseling Los Angeles   I hope this is helpful?  If you need someone to chat with, I am open to email:  sunset5000@yahoo.com

Take care and good luck!

I would suggest that you check with the school that you attending.  Most colleges/universities offer free counseling services for their students.  If you are in the internship phase of your Master's, you've come a long way.  Please try to stay focused and don't give up on that.  Completing this will go a long way toward helpeing you overcome this.

I am very proud of my educational accomplishments and believe, in time, you will too.

Hi! I am so sorry to hear how you're feeling): That must be very difficult. You are definitely grieving the love you lost & grief has no time table. My T&P's are w/you.
I did want to mention that there are resources available for those w/out insurance. Support groups are generally free of charge. I have attended them(a grief group after my only ds died) & it's an excellent way to learn new ways of coping through sharing common experiences. You can call your county mental health services. They will know what is available in your area. Any major hospital w/a behavioral or mental health unit will have outpatient services as well. They can direct you to low cost counseling/therapy services. Some counselors will accept payment on a sliding scale. Houses of worship often have counseling services available that are free or low cost. Service organizations such as the Red Cross or the Salvation Army might have groups or counselors. Also, NAMI.org holds meetings throughout the country when people are dealing w/mental illness. They will have lists of private doctors/counselors in your area. GL & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
