I saw a woman my age at the airport last week. The way she was put together was so good - white hair swept back & up, lime green slacks, flowered cropped jacket and white sandals. Of course, she was considerably thinner than I am. But, it struck me that she is one of those people who is comfortable with her age and doesn't want try to look 20 years younger. As I'll be 70 next June, I am going to use her image as my inspiration. I'd like to be 60 lbs lighter, but will take it 10 lbs at a time. I bring her to mind when I am tempted who eat something unhealthy and calorie laden. So far, I've lost the 2.5 lbs I put on during the 11 day trip and it's not making my life miserable. Worst temptation was a $1 bag of gingersnaps - I could just taste how good they would be. Bought the bag, had some with tea, threw the rest away.

That is awesome; and some of the best advice I've heard in a long time.  Thank you.  :)  I struggled with turning 40; and 50 is right around the corner and I know I'm limping along now.  Hearing your words - brings it all together.

I'm glad my comment could help someone. I'm so tired of seeing women poured into revealing clothes, tottering around on high heals, with colored hair showing silver roots. Who do they think their kidding? One look at hands usually tells the age quickly. I realized it really didn't make me feel better (less fat would do that), just meant that I was buying into the youth culture. I went through my wardrobe last year & pitched a lot of stuff. First thing to go was my leggings - I've lost some height and even with a long top I looked like an elf at the North Pole - LOL. Shopped around & found a jeans brand that fit and that's what I wear daily. Don't care that the higher waist is laughed at - at least I don't have huge muffin tops hanging over. Good luck in finding your authentic self.

That sounds like a terrific way to motivate yourself, Jacquie.  Congratulations on the self-control you showed with the ginger snaps.  Yay for you!

:o) - Karen

I'm thinking the $ stores may be my best friend when I just have a taste for something. Buy it cheap, eat enough to get the taste, throw it away. It's like I love tamales, but sure don't need to eat a whole can of them. So I buy the can, have 2 and dump the rest. May start a whole new diet revolution - LOL.
