hi, i'm new to this board. i am an addict that is struggling through recovery. i am 22 yrs. old and have been addicted to oxycontin, cocaine, and alcohol for nearly 3 yrs. i have recently divorced my husband, who is also an addict(and refused to get help). two months after my divorce, i found out that i was pregnant(my 1st pregnancy). i am due sept. 27. i have tried to quit "cold turkey" since i learned of the pregnancy. i'm trying to deal with all these struggles sober. it's really hard and i admit, i've slipped up a few times. i am looking for some support to help me get through this time in my life.

Hi and welcome to the board. I am Beth, and I am watching out for this board until it gets a leader of its own.

There are many ways to stop and stay stopped. The key is to find what works for you and stick with it. We can help you do that.

Okay, there is therapy...one on one and/or group. The upside is that you get some close contact and attention. The downside it that sometimes therapy costs bucks.

There is Rational Recovery. The program is based on a book of the same name. You can do a websearch and find their homepage. There are some support groups, but mostly this is an on-your-own kind of thing.

There is Women For Sobriety. This centers on alcohol, but I bet it works for all substances. This is a support group of fellow recoverees.

SMART Recovery and Secular Recovery and Save Our Selves are cognitive recovery groups.

NA and AA are also an option.

Check out the ways to get sober and try one that seems to fit you. Let us know what you choose.

What exactly does "slipping" mean? With what? How much? How often?

Slipping means using your drug of choice or any drug. Amount and length of time doesn't matter

I'm new also so I'm not sure how much help I'll be except know that I'm living the daily struggle with you. My problem has been pain pills (Lortab) and my husband just found out. He tried to be supportive, spend a week letting me detox but then turned to my mom for help. I know they want to help but I just want it all to go away.

I have beautiful chldren who are my whole world. You need to remind yourself of that baby. It is the only thing helping me now. I never want my 6-year-old to ask again, "Mommy are you tired today" after taking too many pills. I haven't done any 12-step recovery but I do begin therapy on Tuesday. Is there anyone you can talk to? Is your family supportive?
