i was told by another cl to come find you all when i was ready, and now is as good of time as any. DS isn't home yet from daycare so i can type for a moment! he's 2 and likes buttons, KWIM? LOL.
i am 23 yrs old and just had the full abdominal hysterectomy last tuesday (22nd). they took tubes, my left (and only) ovary, cervix, etc. i still have all my staples and a ton of pain, a UTI and perhaps other infection, and overall misery. my staples come out thursday.
i had 2 miscarriages, one in august 04, then january 05 leading up to this. then a D&C, my appendix removed, some complications after my appendix, and then they said i must have another infection of the pelvis. well, that would make 2 in less than 2 months and i have NEVER had them before. i told them they didn't get everything out from the D&C, and finally i was given a sono to see and sure enough - there it was! i was scheduled for another D&C plus diagnostic lap. they discovered i had severe uterine prolapse (my uterus could be pulled 3 inches out of my vagina), retrograde bleeding, and that my left ovary and tube weren't anchored by ligaments anymore for some unknown reason. they said i could try to live with the pain, or i could have a hysterectomy, but the chances for having a healthy child after this were slim at best. DH and i made the very difficult decision to have the surgery, because i have spent the past 2+ months unable to care for our son, him, the house, or get a job to help with our financial difficulties. after i recovered enough from surgery, i knew it wouldn't get any better than this either.
i was put on 1.25 mg of premarin, which seems to help some although i do have hot flashes, faint spells, and night sweats. oh and mood swings...
we'll see where it goes from here. i never thought i'd be 23 yrs old and entering menopause head on!

Wow Leslie I had no idea. I have seen you on the other board but this is the first time I have seen your history. i am 5 weeks post op due to fibroids and recurrent ovarian cysts. We have only 1 dd as a result of 2 miscarriages and a very high risk pregnancy.

I read the part about all of the symptoms (hot flashes, etc.) has your Dr checked your hormone levels to see if you are getting enough? They had mine too high in the beginning and we are still trying to get them just right.

Anyway just wanted to say hi and tell you how much you have inspired me. To be only 23 adn have the strength to face this is amazing. Hope you feel better soon and was glad to see that you called the Dr this morning. I was so worried about the incision site!!!

Feel better and get some rest. i know that is not easy with a little one but try OK? If you ever need to vent feel free to e mail me anytime. Dawn

hello again! yes, i have seen you on the other board too! i am happy to hear you have a daughter, even with all the struggles. having 1, only 1, makes all the difference. if i didn't have rowan i don't know what i'd do. he is my strength through this, KWIM? i look at him and think WOW, look what i have helped to create! i still long to have had another, but i am young and someday, when we are more financially settled, we can always adopt. there are so many children in the world needing homes and love, which we could give. DH says that sounds good to him, so i am hoping a few years down the road we might be in a position to do that.
i haven't seen my dr yet. i go in thursday for the staple removal, but i will just see the nurse. the dr in the hospital prescribed the premarin 1.25 mg, my dr said he usually starts people (younger ones) on about 2 mg. i asked about checking my levels and he said usually it doesn't come to that because most symptoms are well cared for at that level. the other dr, one who i was actually considering seeking out on my own and happened to get while in the hospital post-op (my dr was on spring break, go figure!), said he has better luck on 1.25. but i'm not sure that he has had such a young person need premarin before. LOL. he's a young-looking dr, actually kinda hot. ROFL.
i see my dr next week and will discuss my symptoms with him. i have only been on it a week so it might take longer than that. if he wants to up the dosage, i will buy another bottle of a smaller dosage and take 2 pills because i spent $135 on this one bottle and can't afford to just toss em' out.
talk to you later, i need to go rest!

Hey girl. I know what you mean about looking into that little face and feeling the wonder of it all. The world is so much fun thru the eyes of a little one. You are one of the few I have seen mention adoption I think that is a great idea. We thought about that too but still aren't sure. I had to be really honest with DH about another child. He works nights and I days so I told him that I really feel like a single parent most days and wasn't sure I could bee a good parent to 2. I could but I am not really sure I want the challenge by myself!!

Isn't it wonderful to have a good looking Doc? I love when that happens!! When you go into the office Thursday remember to ask bout the hot flashes and such. If you are any hting like me write yourself a note so you don't forget. I always go blank.LOL Sometimes the nurses can do just as much good as the doc too.

I hear you on the price of the pills I would do the same. Apparently the patch is much cheaper maybe I should keep my mouth shut about the patch.LOL I just really don't feel right on htis one though.

Well let's go play inthe bathtub!! Talk to ya later, Rest!!! Dawn

Oh my goodness, you have been through so much! ((((HUGS)))) I bet you are glad to be out of that pain. When you are finished with your recovery you will be anyway. Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. That must be very hard to deal with, and then having to decide whether to have the hyst must have been awful. You are a very strong woman. I am very happy for you that you have one little one to love and cherish.

I was 27 when I had mine and that felt very young to go through meno. Just know you have us here at the board to talk to - even if no one else your age will understand!

Take care.

Hugs,

stacy
