Do you exercise on a regular basis? Do your seizures (or meds) hinder you from exercising in any way? What type things do you do?

Hi Karla,

I just had a seizure about 2 months ago.  I haven't had one since.  Still ticked off though.  I'm on Lamital, 100 mg.  I have found the medicine to be wonderful!  My concentration is up, my energy level is much higher.  I'm not hyper or manic (can be a side effect# and I have always worked out.  I walk for about 40 minutes 6 times a week on my Treadclimber and like to do stretching and weight training.  I also ride dressage #horsey discipline#.

I haven't gotten allot of positive information from my doctor.  She doesn't want me to ride anymore #not going to happen) and she has never mentioned that I shouldn't be working out.  She has only mentioned that I will have more seizures and if I hit my head again it will be catastrophic.  I don't think she is a happy person, got a new doctor.  I don't think that my OLD doctor liked the fact that I don't like to play victim and I do take it VERY seriously but if I'm not dead I'm going to fight for quality of life.  Haven't figured out triggers but working on it.

Anyone with seizures please talk to me.  I'm scared and not getting emotional support or information from medical personnel.  I'm looking on the web and my one seizure isn't talked about.  What those of you have to go through with Epilepsy I'm truly sorry and my heart breaks for you.

Amy

Hi Amy and welcome to the group. We're so sorry to hear about your seizure but happy you found us. (Many members don't get here daily but do check in once a week or so, so you should be hearing from a few more people soon.)

I don't personally have seizures but I'm here for my daughter who has had a seizure disorder since birth. There are very few things her Dr. has ever suggested she not do because of her seizure disorder so if I were you, I'd be looking for another Dr. who is more up to date with her information and thoughts. In fact, all her Neurologists have recommend she go on with life and do things just like any other child. The only thing they asked she not do is competition gymnastics (they were worried about the balance beam/bars in the event she had a seizure while on them and fall) and for us to take extra precaution while she is swimming. So she rides a bike, skates, swims, does karate, plays piano and a multitude of other things.

She takes 200mg Lamictal and 900 mg of Trileptal daily and so far she's not really experienced side affects like she had with other meds so happy to hear that the Lamictal is working for you too. It seems to help many people.

I do hope you'll find a couple friends here to help you get through this difficult time in your life. :)

When I am not in school I try to exercise on a regular basis. Neither my seizures or my meds effect my exercise. They used to when i was on other meds and I was too tired to exercise. I like to go for walks and I have simple exercise videos that I do.

Hi Amy-any news to share? How are you doing on the Lamictal?
