Is anyone paying attention to all the mothers and older women who are not only competing at the 2008 Olympics, but are medaling?

Dara Torrres, who narrowly missed a gold in swimming is 41; while ,  Oksana Chusovitina is a 33-year-old mother who won a silver in--of all things--GYMNASTICS! That is a feat almost unheard of at her age. There have been numerous other mothers and older women who are also fairing exceptionally well at the Olympic competition.

What do you think is happening? Is it better training, nutrition or what?

Let's hear it for us 'old' folks  : )  Well, old compared to some of the youngsters in the Olympics!

I think training has to have a lot to do with this.  If you look back to past Olympics, there's such a big difference between how athletes looked then and how they look now.  That, along with good nutrition and those hot, sleek mer-man suits must go a long way in increasing performance.

Dara's my new hero LOL!

The older women have stamina and endurance on their side. I know quite a few 'older' people who train constantly for marathon runs, mountain biking tours etc.

It probably has alot to do with better training and nutrition as well

Omgosh-I watched the gymnast. I couldn't believe it. My daughter did competition gymnastics for years so I know what kind of training it involves. I don't know how Oksana does it-especially raising a kid!

I think it's a combination of better nutrition, training methods and education (about health and wellness). Many of us are starting to realize that what we previously thought was unobtainable past a certain age most certainly is.

I think Dara deserves a gold medal just for putting on that mer-man suit at 41 years old. I'd have spent the whole time wondering just how big it made my hips look and praying there were no backside shots. ROFL!
