Not sure what to think just yet. I went in not knowing what to expect, but I have to say I wasn't expecting what he told me.
My labs showed that potassium etc were all normal. However, my aldosterone was high and cortisol lower. These are both hormones produced by the adrenal glands. I have to have an MRI done with contrast to see if there is decreased blood flow to either kidney. If blood flow is decreased, the kidney will tell the adrenal gland to produce more aldosterone which then allows the body to retain fluids thus increase blood pressure. So I could have some sort of blockage. He also wants the adrenal glands looked at on the MRI to see if there is any type of growth. A growth also could make the adrenal gland produce too much aldosterone.
Really, not what I expected at all. I have to repeat the lab work a week before the MRI. I call on Monday to schedule the MRI which probably will be next month. I have about 6 weeks of school left so I have plenty to keep me busy and my mind off this. I don't want to get all worried until we know what we're dealing with. In the meantime, he's prescribing a medication to see if that helps reduce my blood pressure. He's sending it electronically to the pharmacy and he didn't tell me what it was, which was bad on my part. I'm going to call when they're back from lunch to see if I can find out what medication he prescribed.
