Do you think we are overmedicating?
Do you think we are overmedicating ourselves or our children?
This is an ongoing debate when it comes to ADHD treatment. Part of the debate seems to even question the legitimacy of ADHD.
So, what do you think?
I'm personally on the side of "if medication helps people function more effectively in the real world, why not use it?"
I totally understand that there are risks associated with taking any medication. But I look back at my life and see how meds have helped me to pull my act together. Without them, it's like I was floating in this fog of not caring about anything. With them, I am motivated and more focused on reaching my goals.
I'm not sure exactly HOW the meds help me, which is why I understand the debate. Because I still very much suffer from a million thoughts and ideas. The difference is my state of mind. Rather than being overwhelmed by everything, I am able to channel my efforts into making things happen. So are the meds truly helping my ADHD? Or are they just hyping me up to the point that I have to do something with myself, so I become more productive even though the inability to focus on one thing at a time is still there.
Either way.... they help me. So I'm not going to complain.
