Hi everyone, I am usually on the bipolar board, but I peek over here too.  I have bipolar, ADD, depression,PTSD etc.  Anyway my medication is working for the most part.  My question is concerning my daughter.  She has been diagnosed ADD by a psychiatrist and a medical Dr.  I have tried medication, but she was HORRIBLE on it.  I had to force her to take it and she wouldn't because it made her "feel funny"  Now she has already flunked third grade and forth grade ain't looking so hot this year either.  I have been waiting for the school for 4 years to test her for learning disability and due to one policy after another they have put it off.  I shot off at them for the last time when I got a note home that she was "daydreaming" and not concentrating on her work.  Now that I have let my temper show, they are finally going to do some testing.  What part of ADD do they not understand!!!  It is so frustrating.  She is very intelligent and very creative, but funneling that into good grades seems impossible.  I need some advice.  I know medication works for me, but I don't want her to feel any different than she already does at school.  Aren't schools suppose to have programs for this?  By the way I live in Texas.  --any advice???

As the parent of a child with ADHD, I completely understand your concerns regarding school, medications, etc.  I would be frustrated as well.

One thing I do know is that if you put in writing that you want your child tested for learning disabilites, the school must follow through with this.  It might help to check into what requirements there are in your state as far as following through and what needs to be included in the letter to the school.

I think it might help too, to post your question on our ADD/ADHD (more for children whereas this board caters more to adults) and Special Education Plans boards.  The CLs and members on both boards are great about offering support and information.
