I know many of you have trouble affording the diabetic tests that you need and November is National Diabetes Month. Novo Nordisk is providing free tests at participating Walgreens.

Free Blood Glucose and A1C tests at Walgreens this November

To help encourage diabetes education and promote diabetes prevention, Novo Nordisk has partnered with Walgreens to provide free blood glucose and A1C tests, free diabetes education materials, and insulin delivery device demonstrations of the prefilled insulin pen.

Find a participating store near you >>

Thanks Mary Frances!  The store nearest me isn't doing them but some others are.  I am going to check it out because I need an a1c and I need the savings too!  lol  Also, some of the stores have h1n1 shots too if anyone is wondering where they will be 'getting' that shot!

Well I am getting nervous here about the H1N1 issue!  We did have a death in this city in the last few days due to it(the paper refers to chronic illness, which appears to be something on the order of some respiratory issue.  )    We have also had a school nearby close for several days due to the high number of students ill!

What makes me nervous is in the past once I would get a cold, flu, etc it always turned into a long lingering respiratory issue and my cough and breathing problems could easily last 1-3 months. Then a couple years ago they had a fire at a local recycling place which had chemical issues.  After that the obnoxious form of asthma/allergies....which usually is most obvious as coughing)has stayed around permanently.

I did get the pnuemonia vacinne but I think that does NOT prevent all forms of pnuemonia and it does seem like a lot of the deaths related to the H1N1 are due to respiratory complications!  Locally I think the ONLY H1N1 shots that are here are being used for health care workers, although they do now appear to be saying those with chronic conditions should get it when there is enough available.

Well, if they give it to people with chronic illnesses that would include you.  http://www.flu.gov/  If you are persistent this link should lead you to some info about your county and flu shots.  Right now, kids 6 months to 24 years are the only ones getting the shot locally.

The flu is here.  A friends son is home with it now.  Dd's bf's brother was diagnosed Monday.  The bf is away, at basic training.  Told dd to not go there but I have heard of a case at her college so...  and she was at the bf's house last week anway.  <sigh>

We have had over 20 deaths in the Houston metro area from H1N1 since April.  I have been told that when I go back to work (11/10) I will have a dose waiting for me.  Several of my co-workers are declining the vaccine.  I haven't decided yet.  I don't even get a flu shot normally but the way my luck has been going lately, I might just get one this year.
