Happy Halloween. Now stay out of the candy!!!

I don't have any candy to give out this year. Hubby and I are going to go out to dinner again this year. He really doesn't like answering the door and giving out candy and Abby gets afraid of all the door bell ringing. So we usually go to dinner at restaurant on the main street of our town and watch all the folks who come up and down the street. There is a Halloween parade this morning that I just remembered but since I am not ready to leave the house, I am going to miss it. I do really enjoy seeing all the little kids in their costumes.

I create a scene in my front yard and a little mini haunted house in my garage for the kids in my neighborhood.  This year I did a crime scene in the yard.  It goes along with things in the haunted house.  I did it last year and the kids really liked it and kept coming back over and over.  I've added to it this year and I think they are going to enjoy it.

As for the candy, I give out little cans of playdoh instead of the candy and the kids seemed to not even miss the candy.  I figure it will stir their imaginations more.  When I was on bike patrol we were always out on bikes during peak times so we kept pencils and stuff like that to hand out to the kids we encountered.  That's how I got the idea to do something besides candy.

I've got to go put some finishing touches on all my spooky stuff for the night.  Be safe everyone!

I forgot to take pictures last night but here are a few from last year. For that one I created a crime scene where the "dead" body was still moving in the body bag and the kids had to walk past it to get their treats.  There were other little things that the kids picked up on too.  Last night I had a skeleton that would rattle around until it randomly fell apart.  I also had ghosts on zip lines and mummies come out of trap doors.  It gets more elaborate every year.

Now it is time to start designing my Christmas light display, I've already picked out the music but I need to sit down and start working through the animation sequences, that takes the longest.  I have 32 channels of lights I think I am going to surpass 30,000 lights this year but who knows everything will be done and active by Dec 1

I am always afraid I under estimated.  I originally bought two bags and already had a box of popcorn balls.  BUT as usual I got worried and bought more.  I would have been just about right with what I had....  <sigh>  We never know how many we will have.

This year we had a black arch with gates set up with fllickering orange lights.  Behind it were 'tombstones' with fog coming out over the 'grave yard'.  Also as you 'entered through the gate, there was a lantern hanging with a flameless candle that also made haunting noises.  In the car windows I had 'eyes'.  The bush they must walk by to get to my porch had a sound/motion activated set of eyes that made the spooky noises and shook the bush.  Flickering mulit colored lights around the bow window that already had leaves for fall.  Two pumkins that dd had carved with flickering lights, one by the front door and one by the steps.  Lights around all the pillars on the porch and cobweb across it with spiders.  OH, and pumkin pathway lights behind the graveyard.

One little guy asked me why there was a cob web.  I said isn't it spooky?  I am not sure if it was him or a brother who said, yes.  And from the car, 'dad' yelled, I like your yard!  It is cool!  and gave me a thumbs up.

The shaking bush, got the most comments that I heard however...  Little kids especially, couldn't figure it out!
